Beyond the Box

Why should a shoe box stop being useful once the shoes leave it? Inspired by the Japanese concept of Mottainai, we rethought the familiar rectangular box as a cube—designed to be kept, reused, and given a second purpose.

The Structure Beneath

At Torayoshi, inspiration is rarely about borrowing an object exactly as it appears. It is about understanding the thinking behind it—its structure, rhythm, proportion, and purpose—and allowing those principles to become something new.

The Japanese Principle of Ma: Designing With Empty Space

Discover the Japanese principle of Ma (間), where space is as meaningful as form. Explore how balance, intention, and thoughtful restraint continue to shape timeless design—and inspire the philosophy behind Torayoshi.

MEASURED BALANCE A line held long enough to become deliberate. A form refined until nothing feels excessive. A tension resolved without losing its character. SS26 explores the space between structure and freedom, precision and expression, where every detail exists with purpose and every decision is guided by restraint. Not an exercise in perfection, but a pursuit of harmony—measured through craftsmanship, expressed through design, and defined by intention.
